Encore55+ is a dynamic program for adults aged 55 plus offered by the Division of Workforce Development at Paul D. Camp Community College. This program is being made available with a Grant from the Franklin Southampton Charities.

Encore 55+ Explores the Beauty of Norfolk Botanical Garden! A day filled with blooms, laughter, and good company!

Our Encore 55+ group had a fantastic time visiting the Norfolk Botanical Garden! From a guided tram tour through the vibrant azalea paths, the group explored the breathtaking floral displays, it was a perfect day to connect with nature and friends. Members enjoyed a relaxing lunch, captured beautiful photos, and even picked up a few gardening tips along the way. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this fun and refreshing outing!

Event 1: Jewelry Making with Beads

  • Days/Dates: Thursdays, May 1 and 8, 2025

Event 2: Self Defense-Class

  • Days/Dates: Fridays, May 9 and 23, 2025
  • Times: 10 – 11:15 a.m.

What to Expect: In this class, we’ll teach practical self-defense techniques that you can use in real-life situations. The focus will be on building confidence and empowering you to protect yourself. We’ll cover everything from basic strikes and escapes to situational awareness and more.


Event 3: Creative Arts

What to Expect: Dive into the world of photography with our special workshop designed to enhance your skills, whether you're using a smartphone or a professional camera. Capture the beauty around you and learn tips and techniques from seasoned photographers.


Event 6: Computers & More!

What to Expect: Have questions about computers or small electronics? JOIN US, for a hands-on computer-based class. Sessions are self-pace and individualized. Learn the basics of how to operate a computer or small electronic device and navigate the internet in ways that can enrich your life. Also, learn how to use email, search the internet for information, basics of Word, Excel and/or Powerpoint as well as other array of interests. Bring your questions about computers, mobile phones, the internet, social media and online shopping. Let’s have some fun!


Event 7: Book Club Meeting

  • Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt (Science Fiction) - A heartwarming story of connection, aging, and second chances.

What to Expect: Join us for stimulating discussions on exciting books and connect with fellow book lovers.

Guidelines:

  • Book Selection: Each book is available online, at the local library, or through affordable second-hand options (I highly recommend Thrift Books).
  • Reading: Please ensure the entire book is read before each meeting so we can dive into vibrant discussions!
  • Discussion Format: Our meetings will be informal and conversational, focusing on your thoughts, feelings, and interpretations of the book. Everyone is encouraged to contribute!

Event 8: Mary Kay Satin Hands Day

What to Expect: Satin Hands is such a treat for your skin and getting to relax while learning about other Mary Kay products makes it even better. Plus, it's always nice to bond with friends while pampering yourself! This event is exclusively for Encore 55+ members. Come pamper your hands and enjoy a relaxing time with fellow community members!
